On the road again

I was meant to be in Vienna today, but I couldn't get on the train to go. Needed to spend 2 more days here in Duino.

I'm on the move again. Cain the wandering Jew.

Today the sun is shining through Duino, and I have another couple of days to enjoy some last cups of Italian coffee before heading off to the IB workshop. I am expecting that they will lock us into a room and refuse to let us call our families or lawyers until we have rewritten the course aims for the A1 English program for the IB. Guantanamo Bay interrogators are twinkletoes next to some IB teachers I've come across.

The sky is clear blue, and the horizon shimmering with the gossamer haze emanating from the paper factory in the neighbouring town, Monfalcone. The morning breeze blows little particles of paper across my newly shaved head as I walk to the school building to deliver ToK grades like abandoned babies to the Head of Department.

O the joy. The elation.

I think I need to start writing about myself in the third person. And giving titles like "Portrait of the Genius as a Young Man", and referring to Greek Mythology. What do you think?

A teacher on holiday

Had enough of trying to paste these bloody novel chapters together. Let's just chat.

I've come back from a trip to Montenegro and Croatia which could best be described as unreal. It's a pretty mad part of the world, really. They've been torn apart by ethnic conflicts and manufactured xenophobia. And they drink in the mornings.

We stayed for 5 days in a little seaside bed and breakfast for 7 euros a night, which was run by two pensioners. She spoke a little Italian, but conversations with him were in charades. Which was particularly amusing since he was drunk most of the time.

This place is on the coast of Herzeg Novi. If I could post pictures on this damn blog, I'd show you where that is. It's just across the Serbian border, only about 30mins from Dubrovnik. But it's a lot more chaotic. It's great.

I'd better go. My flat is a tip, and I'm preparing to move to Stuttgart after coming back from an IB workshop in Bratislava (Slovakia). Aaaah. Help.
